The Tokyo-based company installed its CIS thin-film solar modules in an empty swimming pool at a 140-year-old elementary school that has been turned into a sake production facility on Sado Island, off the coast of Niigata prefecture.
Obata Brewery will use the electricity to make its new Gakko Gura (School Cellar) sake. The PV system will supply roughly 20% of the brewery’s electricity needs.
