Sited near Albuquerque, the 200,000-sq-ft plant has an initial annual production capacity of 85 megawatts (MW). It is also the first US facility to produce the types of solar thermal receivers that are used in utility-scale, parabolic-trough CSP plants, with two production lines set to make 400MW of such receivers each year.
In anticipation of a massive boom in the US solar market, Schott Solar has already announced plans to quadruple the plant’s size, saying it will boost its total investment into the facility to $500m and create 1,500 permanent jobs.
