Roughly 20.45GW of distributed-generation capacity — including energy sources such as biomass and diesel-powered internal combustion engines — was installed throughout the region by the end of 2015, Frost & Sullivan says in its new Trends in the Distributed Power Generation Market in Southeast Asia report.

It expects cumulative distributed-generation capacity to hit 34.7GW by 2020, as demand rises partly because of poor transmission and distribution infrastructure in countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines, as well as topographical issues on remote islands throughout the region.
