The news that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (Mofcom) will pursue allegations that US polysilicon manufacturers received unfair government subsidies and illegally dumped their products in China came as little surprise to many in the industry, as it had been rumored since the US began its investigation last autumn.

"REC [Silicon] believes that this trade case has been provoked by the solar trade war initiated by SolarWorld in the United States which has resulted in the imposition of preliminary antidumping and countervailing duties against Chinese solar cells being imported into the United States," says the Norwegian solar company with a major US plant.
