Korean conglomerate Hanwha Chemical said the 130MW of module and 230MW of cell production currently carried out at Thalheim, Germany, will transfer to its main site in Cyberjaya, Malaysia in the case of cells “and another site to be determined later for modules”.

The news – which Hanwha Q Cells justified on grounds of competitiveness – will come as a big blow to the beleaguered German solar industry, which celebrated when Hanwha bought the bankrupt former Q Cells business out of insolvency in 2012.
