PNM had previously flagged up its intention to build the solar capacity, but on Thursday the utility formally signed off on the plan. However, it still needs the approval of state regulators before it can proceed.
The capacity would be built across four ground-mount arrays, each 10MW, for an estimated $79m.
Two of the arrays would be built by Juwi Solar Inc.,
