The proposed closure of the twin Diablo Canyon 1,200MW units along the Pacific Ocean near San Luis Obispo in 2025 will require approval by regulators at the California Energy Commission (CEC).
This eight- to nine-year transition period will provide the time to begin the process to plan and replace Diablo Canyon’s energy with new GHG-free replacement resources, according to the utility.
