California investor-owned utility Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) has agreed to buy energy from the plant, pending approval of the agreement by the California Public Utilities Commission.
Late last year, PG&E agreed to purchase power from a 10MW thin-film solar array installed near El Dorado’s 480 MW combined cycle gas fired power plant in Boulder City, Nevada.
Construction on the 48MW Copper Mountain Solar facility, an extension of the existing project, is scheduled to begin after the CPUC gives the green light, with an in-service target of 2011.
