The “collapsing price of solar” means that “in many markets solar is actually more competitive than wind”, says Hunter Amistead, Pattern Energy's executive vice president for business development.
Currently all of Pattern Energy’s 2.1GW of generating capacity is wind. The New York-listed yieldco owns stakes in 16 wind farms in the US, Canada and Chile.
But its portfolio is set to become more technologically diverse in the years ahead.
