Tokyo Electron, which makes semiconductor production equipment, will now sell Oerlikon thin-film manufacturing equipment throughout Asia for the first time. Tokyo Electron boasts an extensive sales and customer service network running through Asia and Oceania.
The co-operation “creates a new solar powerhouse which will unlock the huge potential of the Asian solar market,” says Uwe Krüger, chief executive of Oerlikon.
Oerlikon says it expects the market for thin-film PV modules to grow 60% a year through 2012 – more than double the rate for traditional crystalline PV modules.
