OCI putting heavy investments to raise polysilicon production capacity

OCI spending $1.6bn to expand polysilicon capacity

South Korea’s OCI is spending 1.88trn won ($1.6bn) over the next two years to build facilities and expand its current annual polysilicon production capacity of 27,000 tonnes by 77%.

OCI will invest 1.6trn won to construct a new polysilicon plant with production capacity of 20,000 tonnes at Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do. Construction work will start in December 2010 and is planned for completion by October 2012.

The company will expand an existing plant by adding 7,000 tonnes of production capacity with an investment of 280bn won. The expansion project is aimed for completion by December 2011.
