In doing so NRG – the second largest US conventional power generator, with more than 50GW of capacity – acknowledged that it is at present a “major emitter” of carbon.
But the company says it will blaze ahead in its push towards renewables, distributed energy, and energy storage, ultimately sparing the atmosphere 3 billion tonnes of carbon that it would otherwise have emitted by 2050.
