Irena has produced Renewables Readiness Assessments for Vanuatu, the Marshall Islands and Fiji. The reports find that a combination of wind, solar, marine, geothermal, biomass and biofuels could meet domestic energy needs while reducing electricity costs and increasing energy access.
All three Pacific nations rely heavily on fossil fuels, so developing renewables would decrease their dependence on expensive imports and reduce the risks associated with oil price volatility.
