A source of internal debate at concentrated solar power (CSP) developer SolarReserve is whether to call its molten-salt storage technology “integrated” or “inherent”.

The question is sure to come up again with construction now under way at its 110MW Crescent Dunes power-tower project near Tonopah, Nevada, which has a price tag of nearly $1bn.

Molten salt serves as the primary heat-collection fluid, in place of water or synthetic heat-transfer fluids used in other systems.
