The Detroit-based company says the retirements are part of an “overarching fundamental transformation in the way DTE will produce energy for Michigan.”
With today's announcement, DTE Energy will retire 11 of its 17 coal-fired units by 2023. Eight of those units scheduled for retirement - River Rouge, St. Clair and Trenton – together generate 25% of the electricity produced by the utility in 2015.
