The 185m dirham ($50m) solar farm – which generates half its output from traditional crystalline silicon panels, and half from thin-film panels – is one of the world’s most cost-efficient solar-power arrays, and marks a significant milestone in the development of Masdar City.
The 87,777 photovoltaic (PV) panels were designed and built by Abu Dhabi-based Enviromena Power Systems, with construction on the array starting in August 2008.
