The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has revoked FIT authorisations for 9.7% of the planned solar installations approved under the 2012 FIT rate of ¥42 ($0.52) per kWh.

Japan currently offers a FIT rate of ¥32/kWh for commercial projects and ¥37/kWh for residential PV systems, or installations below 10kW in size.

A METI survey in October 2013 showed that a significant number of approved projects had yet to be developed.
