The case for solar power in India has been pressed for years and is not difficult to make, considering the average city in India sees 300 days of sunshine a year. With more than 450 million Indians living off the electricity grid, the country is unsurprisingly replete with PV-rigged street lights, traffic signals and domestic power back-up stations.
Yet solar PV makes only a miniscule contribution to India’s total energy supplies at present, with very few utility-scale projects in operation or even under planning.
