The targets, proposed earlier this week by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), are designed to help the country reach its goal of installing 40GW of residential, industrial and commercial rooftop solar capacity by 2022.
“Private sector investment is the key,” MNRE joint secretary Tarun Kapoor said in a recent letter, adding that state governments will also be expected to contribute to the build-out, along with funding from public and private lenders and assistance from international entities such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
