Around INR 190m ($3.8m) will be invested into small-scale solar power generation in Nagpur, India’s 13th largest city. Half the money will come from the ministry, and half from state and local governments.

Rather than focusing on utility-scale solar plants, the money will be spent on smaller solar-powered systems, including street lights, traffic lights and solar water heaters.

Known as the ‘orange city’, Nagpur will derive 10% of its total energy from renewables by the project’s completion, and will also see investment and promotion poured into energy efficiency measures.
