The subsidies, made under India’s National Solar Mission (NSM), will aim to spur the installation of 4.2GW of grid-connected rooftop PV, said a government statement.
The support – which covers the period to 2019/20 – will be directed at residential and public authority deployments such as schools and hospitals.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEE), which approved the increase from the previous 6bn rupees, said 26 states have so far drawn up net-metering or gross-metering regulations to support rooftop solar.
