The Liberal/National coalition now plans to cut the RET from the current  41TWh of renewables-generated electricity by 2020 — the bulk of it wind and solar — to 32TWh.

The government initially wanted to cut the RET to as low as 26TWh, but has since adjusted that upwards during negotiations with Labor, which opposes such a steep reduction.

Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane told the opposition Labor Party and the wind and solar industry this week that the government of Prime Minister Tony Abbott is not willing to compromise any further.
