SolarCity said the fund – the largest ever for residential solar – will cover the upfront cost of thousands of installations in 14 states and District of Columbia.
It repeats a 2011 partnership between the two that saw the web giant put $280m into a similar residential solar push.
Since then SolarCity has grown at breakneck speed to become the leading US installer of rooftop PV, adding 502MW last year and guiding for up to 1GW in 2015.
