Global PV market growth to slow on Q3 drop in China installations — IHS

Global PV market growth will start to slow in response to an anticipated 80% plunge in installations in China in the third quarter, exacerbating module oversupply and potentially driving another round of consolidation in the Chinese solar industry, according to a new report.

Data from IHS Technology shows that almost 13GW of PV capacity was added in China in the first six months of 2016.

Developers rushed to complete projects in the first half, ahead of changes to the government’s feed-in tariff (FIT) rates that will take effect from 30 June.

China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) will reduce its solar FIT rates by between 0.02
