CPV India, which is funded by KfW, is meant to spearhead new research in the technology, which combines focusing-lenses and high-efficiency multi-junction solar cells to create modules with efficiencies of over 40%.

"First of all, we want to achieve a transfer of knowledge especially in the area of CPV," says Gerald Siefer, Fraunhofer ISE's head of the Indo-German CPV project.

"Another focus will be characterising CPV technology in the context of the local climate conditions in India."
