The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at developing a 250 MW solar trough technology plant in Nye County that includes thermal storage. Solar Millennium has been developing solar-thermal power plants in Spain.
The technology allows solar harvesters to feed clean energy into grids at times of peak demand.
“It is now reasonable to believe that projects like this one will be capable of providing reliable power supply as part of a mix of resources that will include other types of renewable resources,” said Michael Yackira, NV Energy’s chief exectuive.
