Energy minister Sigmar Gabriel says that despite a change to tenders instead of feed-in tariffs for most new projects, renewables expansion will remain a fundamental pillar of the Energiewende— Germany’s transition from nuclear to renewables.

“We want to increase the share of RE from 33% now to 40-45% in 2025 and to 55-60% in 2035,” he says.

“The EEG 2016 is the central instrument to reach an effective annual volume management and bring renewables closer to markets.”
