Southern Company is among the largest – and dirtiest – utility holding companies in the US in terms of its overall carbon pollution, but the Atlanta-based company has greatly increased its investments into renewables in recent years, particularly through its unregulated IPP arm, Southern Power.
Georgia Power, which serves 2.4 million customers in Georgia, filed its 2016 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), which outlines its outlook and intentions for the next 20 years – covering everything from fuel-cost and load projections to anticipated future transmission needs.
