Under a special-purpose company known as Setouchi Future Creations, Toyo Engineering and Shimizu plan to start constructing the ¥110bn array this November on 260 hectares of salt flats in Setouchi, Okayama prefecture, Chiba-based Toyo Engineering said in an online statement.
GE Energy Financial Services holds a 60% stake in the project.
The project, which has been in development for several years, will be Japan’s largest PV installation when the group connects it to the grid in the second quarter of 2019.
