With 3,024 units, most were installed in the southern state of Bavaria, followed by Germany's most populous state, North-Rhine Westphalia, where 2,001 ESS were added.

"Solar ESS bring a double benefit: operators can consume more of the solar power generated by themselves and save costs. And an intelligent control of the storage units also relieves grids," Philipp Vohrer, managing director of the agency for renewable energy (AEE) said of the findings.
