The eclipse – which was billed in advance as a stern trial of Europe’s ability to deal with a renewables-led power mix – saw 17GW of solar generation lost and then quickly reintegrated into the European power system between 0900 and 1200 CET, ENTSO-E said.
The body said a year of careful planning by transmission system operators (TSOs) paid off, as they co-operated to manage the event and return grid conditions to normal by 1200.
