For the past decade Germany has been the global manufacturing hub of solar photovoltaic (PV) products, as well as the world’s largest market, thanks to generous government subsidies.

But its centrality to the industry is being eroded on both sides, with China having become the leading producer of low-cost solar modules, and the US consumer market for solar products rocketing.
