ENGIE bought a 95% stake in France-based Solairedirect for an undisclosed sum in what it described as a “crucial” step in its solar strategy.

The utility becomes the largest solar operator in France following the deal, with a total 383MW installed capacity.

As well as strengthening its domestic solar position, ENGIE said the deal will help its global PV footprint.

Solairedirect has interests in more than 15 countries and had 486MW in operation or under construction as of March 2015.
