Within the upper-tier of US residential solar companies, Sungevity – the third largest player in 2014 – is an outlier.
While residential solar leases and PPAs remain the bedrock of its business, Sungevity does not perform any rooftop installations in-house, in contrast to its closest rivals.
Rather, Sungevity is more of a technology company, constantly evolving its "platform" that allows potential customers, finance providers, and downstream installers to plug in and get a piece of the action.
