Dow Solar general manager Jane Palmieri says production of the innovative product, which is easy to install and aesthetically pleasing, will bring as many as an additional 1,100 jobs to the Midland region.

The US Energy Department provided $20m in funding for a Dow renewable energy project in 2007 that led to development of the mass-market solar shingles.

The technology uses a cost-effective and durable photovoltaic material called CIGS, or Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide).
