CPUC approves Bright Source contracts with PG&E

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) also blessed the demand response programmes of the state’s three investor-owned utilities and pledged to study the impact of electric and natural gas vehicles.

The CPUC, during its regular business meeting, approved two power purchase agreements between investor-owned utility Pacific Gas & Electric and solar developer BrightSource Energy.

The approved BrightSource projects are Ivanpah 1 and 3, with capacities of 110 megawatts (MW) and 200MW, respectively, and online dates of July 2012 and 2013.

BrightSource is developing large-scale concentrating solar power projects and has power purchase agreements in place with renewables-hungry California utilities for 2.6GW
