Concerns amid low Brazil PV prices

While the successful conclusion of Brazil’s first national solar auction demonstrates the scope of developers’ ambitions for the country, the sector must still overcome Brazil’s local-content rules and import tariffs before it can find a stable footing, says NPD Solarbuzz senior analyst Michael Barker.

Barker questions whether developers will be able to build quality projects at the low prices they submitted.

“Overall, the fact that these projects were awarded contracts is good, but it remains to be seen whether at these prices will solar be able to remain competitive,” Barker tells Recharge.

Brazil awarded 20-year contracts for 890MW solar projects in 31 projects throughout the country.
