Inverters — devices that convert direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) — are required to feed power produced by solar panels to the grid. But a shortage of necessary components has created a bottleneck in their supply.

“We started selling to Europe in March. Customers couldn’t get inverters, so they began to look for ours,” says Joseph Tam, Asia-Pacific sales director at Sungrow, China’s best-known inverter manufacturer.
