China could drive new global PV close to 60GW, says SPE

After a near-stagnation in 2014 due to declines in Europe, the global solar market this year and next may see a massive increase in installations driven by China, the US, Europe and a stabilising Japanese market, said Solar Power Europe (SPE, formerly EPIA) in its 2015-2019 Global Market Outlook.

After the world added a record 40GW of solar power in 2014, new installations in 2015 and 2016 could come in at above 50GW per year, possibly even close to 60GW, says the report presented at the Intersolar conference in Munich today.

The forecast is in line with those of other analysts such as research group IHS, which has predicted global additions of 57.3GW
