The law institutes 30-year planning, allows grid expansion for specific regions and technologies, increases connection between the country's three grids, sets up an independent grid operator, guarantees open access to the grid and makes transmission pricing more transparent.

“Bigger and better transmission from north to south means supply security in the whole territory; it implies that clean energy can really be the base of a power mix; it means that we can stop prices rising and that, soon, we can reduce the costs of power; and it means more investments in infrastructure such as transmission and power generation,” Bachelet said.
