A 30MW project will be located in Oakey and another 17MW in Longreach – both in Queensland. Both projects have a 20-year government-backed Contract for Difference (CFD) in place.

Canadian Solar plans to begin construction in first quarter 2017 and achieve full commercial operation in January 2018 at the latest.

It will supply 93,600 modules for the Oakey project, which will power about 14,100 homes. Longreach will utilize 54,600 modules and generate electricity for 8,500 homes.

The company did not provide a cost estimate for either project.

"We are pleased and proud to secure the funding from ARENA to support our solar project business in Australia, where we see the market is growing steadily," said chief executive Shawn Qu, adding that the company will continue to “expand and execute on our quality solar project pipeline in Australia.”
