California, which has a 33% renewables target (excluding large hydro) for 2020, is already by far the leading US state for solar energy, and the second largest for wind, trailing only Texas. Last year California derived about 25% of its retail electricity from renewables.
While claiming that California already has “the most far-reaching environmental laws of any state and the most integrated policy to deal with climate change of any political jurisdiction in the Western Hemisphere”, Brown also insisted that his state’s efforts “are not enough” to stop devastating climate change.
