In contrast to last year's first auction to buy solar output, when other power technologies were also contracted, this year the government will only tender for utility-scale PV projects with at least 5MW of capacity.
Developers have to register projects for the auction by 14 April and the plants contracted will have to be built by 1 August 2017.
In the country's first solar auction, power was contracted from 31 projects with a combined capacity of 890MW at an average price of R$215/MWh ($67/MWh) – significantly below the cap price of R$262/MWh.
