Hyperion Energy is seeking approval to establish Australia’s first plant powered by solar updraft technology.
Central to the A$1.6bn ($1.7bn) project is a 1,000-metre-high tower, surrounded by collector panels that the company claims will generate up to 200MW.
Solar updraft towers work on the principle that hot air rises. A large collector uses the sun’s energy to warm the air beneath its canopy.
