First Solar’s announcement in particular oozed with public relations speak, touting the 2MW order with a local partner in Xinjiang province as an “important step forward in [its] efforts to support China’s renewable energy goals”.
More substantially, SunPower will spend $15m buying a quarter-share of a new joint venture that will manufacture and deploy its C7 concentrator technology in China.
But surely both US-based companies know these deals won’t amount to much – at least not any time soon.
