Under the plans, the city will spend AUS$1.2m ($847,000) installing 50-kilowatt systems made by BP Solar at the Central Market, the city council’s Rundle Lantern outdoor art canvas and the Detroit Diesel building at the Keylink industrial estate.

Each will generate about 70,000 kilowatt hours of renewable electricity each year.

Last year, 320 photovoltaic (PV) panels were installed at the city’s central bus station, and they have since generated more electricity than expected.
