Acciona will spend $343m on the array, which it said will be one of the 10 largest in the world and the biggest yet built by its Acciona Energia division.
El Romero – due to be online in mid-2017 and producing 505GWh annually – will make the biggest contribution to Acciona’s 600GWh renewable power contract secured in a 2014 tender.
The plant will be located over 280-hectares in the municipality of Vallenar, about 650km north of Santiago.
Acciona has already built the 45 MW Punta Palmeras wind farm in Chile and is carrying out solar EPC work for third-party clients.
