Although wind accounts for 9GW, or about 6% of the country's 140GW installed capacity and is expected to increase to 10% by 2024, solar is forecast to grow to 7GW by 2024, excluding rooftop PV, raising the need for energy storage.
Among the technologies discussed in the Aneel draft are battery storage and hydroelectric storage, using reversible dams. The programme is expected to launch this year and project selection will be concluded in 2017.
