The deals approved by California Public Utilities Commission (PUC) were for BrightSource’s 250MW Rio Mesa 2 and 540MW Sonoran West solar thermal projects. The company will employ molten salt storage for the first time at Sonoran West, which will enable it to produce power during night hours.
The commissioners gave the go-ahead to Mesa-2 for its use of technology relating to the advancement of solar-thermal systems.
