SMA gets 616MW Indian PV inverter order

German PV inverter maker SMA Solar Technology will supply 616MW of inverters apt for challenging conditions to Indian developer Greenko Energies for solar projects in the Indian states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

SMA says it has especially developed the Sunny Central 1000CP XT inverters to be delivered for high-growth markets with particularly high price pressure and challenging ambient conditions, such as India.

“With its outdoor rating, OptiCool technology, extensive earthquake and wind speed tests as well as its highest power density in the market, the Sunny Central 1000CP XT inverter clearly focuses on reducing Balance of System (BOS) components, maintenance and logistical costs for any solar power plant project,” says Boris Wolff, SMA’s executive vice president for business utility unit.

The large order comes as SMA recently had to downgrade its 2016 sales and operational profit guidance in the wake of price pressure in the global solar PV industry arising from delays to major projects in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region as well as a downturn in the huge Chinese PV market.
